Limoges Artist Signed Hand Painted Porcelain Plates Haviland France 1900s Antique Art Nouveau Pair Cobalt Trim Stenciled Gold Gilding French
Beautiful antique, artist signed "Crumley" hand painted pair of plates, marked Haviland France, circa 1900's. I have two more sets of these listed, all with different scenes.
Plates have cobalt trim with hand stenciled gold gilding. Each measures 6 1/4" across with no chips, cracks or repairs, just typical wear due to age and handling.
Upon research I discovered that an artist by the name of Crumley was employed by Bawo & Dotter Company, a Limoges distributor in New York City from 1860-1932 as a porcelain decorator.
These plates, along with many other porcelain pieces, some marked Limoges, some not, were purchased as a collection by myself from the deceased estate of a Mrs. Crumley.
Further research also concluded that Bawo & Dotter often employed women in what was referred to as the "cottage movement", so named for the women in their employ were given Limoges blanks to return home with, paint, and return for sale and distribution.
